  • "an electronic detection device or active system for locating or tracking a distant object by measuring elapsed circuit time of travel of ultrahigh frequency radio waves of known propagation velocity emitted from a transmitter and reflected back by the object"

History

1886 - Heinrich Hertz demonstrated the reflection of radio waves.
1904 - Cristian Hulsmeyer develoved the first radar " Telemobiloscope"
Telemobiloscope - was a transmitter-receiver system for detecting distant metallic objects by means of electrical waves.

Radar Theory

  • A signal is transmitted, it bounces off an object and it is later received by the receiver.
  • Sound echo's off a wall.
  • Radars don't use sound as a signal.
